Thunderbird Aerospace UBC is currently competing to design and launch the University’s first and only Liquid Rocket. Skoden, meaning “Let’s Go Then!”, is Thunderbird Aerospace’s first liquid-fueled rocket, which we are looking to use in FAR-OUT 2026.
Using high fidelity CFD paired with thermofluidic data of Nitrous Oxide and Ethanol imported from NIST property tables, boundary conditions expected with varying nitrous autogenous temperatures, high fidelity FEA for dynamic and static components in all systems, and preliminary transient simulations in SImulink, the liquid bi-propellant engine can achieve the desired design specifications within the small 5" geometric envelope.
